Performance Series

A mashup of our classic dance series (curated by Pam Tzeng), interdisciplinary series (curated by Charles Netto) and improv series (co-produced with the Kinkonauts and curated by Owen Chan). 
Title:  Bullseye     (The Pumphouse)
Description: Sometimes the best way to hit the mark is by trying something completely new. Watch one solo improv show and two interdisciplinary pieces reset the board and dig into different stories and different values in order to hit new centers.

4 Chairs One Man will be joined by 4 chairs and 5 audience suggestions to create a 100% improvised show. Conner Christmas (Improviser). 
Desensitized A dance choreographer and a multi-media storyteller create a piece inspired from recent news stories. Emily Losier & Kimberly Ihekwoaba.
The Story of the Listener A dancer and theatre artist create a piece showcasing voices of solitary listeners & caregivers. Erika Low & Sepidar Yeganeh Farid. 
Title:  Fearless     (West Village Theatre)
Description: Fearlessness is willingness, nothing more, nothing less. In this series, be confronted with one improv troupe willing to traverse the unknown and one theatre piece willing to expose the explicit. Be brave and go with them.

Alacrity Improv A ragtag group of improvisers exploring the infinite playground of the unknown.

The Problem With Snow A theatre reading of a one-man show examining privilege through the lens of a white, cis, gay man – Snow.

Title:  Into the Abyss      (The Pumphouse)
Description: Go out of body, into the imaginative abyss, with one interdisciplinary and two dance performances that transfer the inner human into the outer abstract of a plant, a myth, a trauma.

Resurrected Motif: El Duende  A fusion of contemporary and flamenco dance chasing the bodily experience of El Duende. Choreographed by Jen Dunford.

Tapestry A spoken word poet and performer & visual artist explore the perennial themes of struggle, resilience, legacy. By Mel Vee & Kloee Huberdeau
Botánica A dance that explores the anthropomorphism of tropical flora. Choreographed by Sabrina Naz. A special thank you to the dancers, Deanne Walsh, Laura Kleiner, Jennifer Burgess and D’on Duncan for greatly aiding in the creation of this project.

Description: Focused, unwavering, grit. No this isn’t a truck commercial, this is two dance pieces and one improv troupe showcasing how humans transform their environments, with courage and ambition.

Description: Join two exciting dance pieces, two interdisciplinary performances, and one improv troupe to find out what X marks for their artistic journey. It is not always treasure that lies at the end of a journey!

The Convoluted A dance that presents a vision on AI and non-human operated machinery. Choreographed by Frankie Warren.

Title:  IGNITE! Club: Late Night Hot Meat     (West Village Theatre)

Description: Late Night Hot Meat will get folks raucous and sweaty. This is a multi-disciplinary performance party // clashing together of audience and artists with exploratory, off-the-wall, never-before-seen, might-not-ever-be-seen-again: performance experiences.

Music, installations, one-on-one encounters, performance, movement, freakish, out of this world, interdisciplinary and the impossible will explode the idea of the LIVE. The clubs create a platform for adventurous and interesting work while enjoying a party.

Description: This is a pop-up performance event featuring artists with various stories and journeys; Queer, Trans, Non-binary, LGBTQIA2++, racialized and other voices that have been marginalized and/or fucked over by the world. Anything goes! Strut your stuff! This night will celebrate the diversity of our community and honour the many voices that for various reasons lack outlets to be seen and heard. It will also be an evening of community connection and sharing of insight. This night will be a safe, inclusive space for the passionate artist to express themselves and for you to enjoy respectfully.

Treaty 7 Land
The IGNITE! Festival acknowledge this event takes place on the land of the Treaty 7 People, The Blackfoot from Kainai, Blood, Siksika, and Peigan, The Sarcee from Tsu’tina and Eden Valley, and the Stoney Nakoda people from Morley. We are all treaty people, visitors to this land and we give thanks to the people who came before and keep this land for us and all our future generations.
