SOLICITING TEMPTATION by Erin Shields

Soliciting Temptation, a Sage Theatre joint production with Edmonton’s Shadow Theatre (March 9 to 26, 2017), opens with a provocative hotel room encounter between a middle-aged white man and a exotic young, possibly too young, woman. What starts as a rendezvous quickly flips as the woman reveals that she’s there to trap him as a sex tourist and predator, telling his job and his family. Her own background comes into play as the power shifts back and forth between these two intricate characters.

A young woman struggling to find her voice while suffering from a debilitating disease. The powerful drama explores the limits of compassion, the impact of her condition on those closest to her, and the difficult choices facing our heroine who wins over the audience with her determination, joy and humour. At times silly, sensual, and shocking, the narrative is always beautifully framed around the real choices and outcomes facing the characters.
