Biographies:
[one_half] Connor is a theatre artist and enthusiast born and raised in Calgary, currently exploring various avenues of drama and primarily interested in performer-creating. As someone fascinated with the intersections between makeup, queerness, and performance, Connor has been finding this interdisciplinary play-date to be the perfect opportunity to stretch his art-making and makeup-designing practices. Makeup credits include: Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo (Search Tower Company), Ching Chong Chinaman (Iglesia Productions). Acting credits include: It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (Lunchbox Theatre), Riverside Roam (Swallow-A-Bicycle Theatre/Ignite! Festival), The Learned Ladies, SEXXXY, Measure for Measure, The Love of the Nightingale, Eurydice (UCalgary SCPA), The Grass is Always Greener, Moving in Psychosis, and Savings and Values (Common Ground Festival). [one_half] Davinder Malhi holds a High School diploma and the back half of an English-German pocket dictionary. Since graduation from Crescent Heights in Calgary, he has moved to Toronto and started at York University, in hopes to pursue a degree in Theatre. Davinder has
worked on many productions including Concord Floral at Theatre
Junction Grand, Defined at the Ignite! Festival for Emerging Artists,
and most recently Concord Floral at the Canadian Stage. Identifying as a coloured artist, Davinder has geared the intentions and focus of his future works towards the diversification of the theatrical arts and
shedding light on the importance of representation on the stage.

[one_half] respectfulchild (敬兒) is the instrumental violin project of Gan from Saskatoon on Treaty 6 Territory. Their music is both “electronic” in nature while being acoustically created, building experimental ambient soundscapes that are as hallucinatory as they are heavenly. They utilize a minimal set-up with their violin to focus attention on the ebb and flow of their bubbling rhythms and hypnotic textures. With a sound that has been likened to artists such as Brian Eno, Nils Frahm, and Owen Pallett, the lone presence of respectfulchild has often beenable to bring quiet to even the noisiest of rooms.
The name respectfulchild is the literal translation of Gan’s Mandarin
name敬兒[jìng er]. This name was given to Gan by their grandmother when they were born, a name and a culture they’ve become estranged from having lived their whole life in the predominantly white world of the Canadian Prairies. The music of respectfulchild is Gan’s quiet way of seeking meaning in 敬兒 again.

[one_half] Gillian McKercher is a Calgary-based filmmaker who works in both celluloid and digital mediums. A 2017 Alberta Foundation for the Arts Young Artist Prize winner, Gillian’s work explores how circumstance affects our actions. Gillian is the co-creator of The Calgary Collection and a 2013 Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of Calgary.

[one_half] Ivanna Ihekwoaba is a third year Drama major at the University of Calgary. This is her debut at the IGNITE! Festival and she is very grateful for the opportunity to share her art. She was last seen in Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author as Supporting Actress at the University of Calgary. Special thanks goes out to her family and friends for their support, and to her artistic partner Kyle for being an interesting force. Ivanna is very excited to perform
poetry/spoken word and is looking forward to the rest of her Drama
degree.

[one_half] Jessica Haggeman is primarily a theatre stage manager, so she is excited to be expanding her repertoire by stage managing both the Interdisciplinary Series and the Dance Series with Ignite! This is her second year being a part of the Ignite! Festival and she is stoked to be working with so many great new artists. Jessica spent a year in Toronto in Ryerson University’s Performance Production program, and she plans on returning in the fall to continue pursuing theatre in Toronto. [/one_half]

[one_half] Katherine Holm is a spoken word poet and emerging theatre artist based in Calgary. She is a graduate student at the University of
Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts, specializing in
Theatre Studies. In her MFA thesis project, she is studying artistic
responses to urban landscapes.

[one_half] Kyle Hinton is a Multi-Disciplined artist who is devoted to sound, theatre, programming and writing. He is absolutely stoked to work on this inter-disciplined project with Ivanna Ihekwoaba.
Making gadgets and tech a seamless integration for artists to express themselves and to tell stories, is what he is most fascinated by. The most challenging for this can be in live performance. How people relate through technology and science and philosophy is what he loves to create content about.
Amongst his work, you’ll find sound design for theatre and for music, sound installations, electronic music composition, field recording, puppet craft, playwriting, performance art and programming. His most recent projects include puppeteering and producing “The Suitcase Theatre Arcade” at the Festival of Animated Objects; “The Echo Location Station”, A sound installation at Telus Spark’s, Monster Mash; “Absurdable Universe” A play reading that was presented at Ignite in 2016 and workshopped with Chromatic Theatre in 2015.
He produces IDM, glitch and experimental electronic music under the name Simulations. He holds a bachelor of arts in Drama with a minor in philosophy from the University of Alberta. He is currently studying Computer Science at the University of Calgary.

[one_half] Skylar is a Calgary-based set, lighting, and costume designer and a recent BFA graduate from the University of Calgary. Some of his favourite credits include The Exquisite Hour (Asst. set and light design, Lunchbox Theatre), Closer to the Heart//The Afterlife (Production design, UCalgary Taking Flight), Splendour (Lighting design, UCalgary MainStage), Macbeth (UCalgary Taking Flight), Wagonstage (Production design, Calgary Zoo), and Window (Asst. set and costume design, Ghost River Theatre).
