What happened last night on the dance floor? Two friends try to retrace their steps from the night before to figure out just how it all ended in an explosive fight. In their effort to figure out last night’s facts, both friends shift from self to alter-ego, and along the way, are met with stunning revelations. BODY SO FLUORESCENT is inviting and outrageous: asking difficult questions about blackness, otherness and relational oppressions.

I, AMANDA CORDNER (Toronto based theatre creator/film/tv actor, and exceptional hugger) made my solo-show debut last year at the 37th Annual Rhubarb Festival at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre with body so fluorescent (co-created by David Di Giovanni). I am incredibly grateful to Sage Theatre for programming #BSF in this year’s IGNITE! Festival. And I am elated to be sharing my work with the Calgary arts community!

After graduating, she continued to focus on directing and creating, co-directing Lethbridge’s Shakespeare in the Park summer 2015 and independently directing and producing Where We Left Off. Since moving to Calgary, she has worked with Mudfoot Theatre and Ghost River Theatre as a performer and creator. She is passionate about devised and collaborative theatre, examining the range of connections that exist within relationships, and exploring the boundaries of what theatre can be.

[one_half] Taylor is incredibly excited to be participating in her first Ignite Festival and she couldn’t be prouder to see the double-billed shows she has been managing come to life on the Pumphouse stage. Currently Taylor is entering her third year as a drama and philosophy student at the University of Calgary, where she has been focusing in stage management, directing, and actively arguing for musical theatre equality and appreciation. And yes, before you ask, the answer to the ever-so-common question of “And WHAT are you possibly planning to do with your life with THAT degree?!?” Taylor plans to eventually graduate, pretend that she doesn’t have an army of student loans to pay off, hopefully direct some musicals and other forms of interdisciplinary work, and be fortunate enough to do something with her life that she loves.
Special shout out to my sister Brooke, the inspiration and the reason why I love what I love, and my mother Rhonda, who sits through countless performances of shows I’ve worked on (no matter how much she dislikes them) just because I worked on it. But when her friend and cast member for The Dog House romcom web series, Diego Stredel, told her about the part for Nahla, she was excited to try out. It is the first stage play Hala has performed in since her university says. Lebanese-born, Melkite Christian, Hala’s family came to Canada to escape the war and built a life here in Alberta. As a founding member of the new theatre company Seven Starving Artists, her goal is to help elevate new voices and create new work for social change. Biographies:

Louise Casemore is a producer, writer, performer, and overall creative renegade currently based in Alberta. She received her post-secondary training as one of the final graduates of Keyano College’s conservatory Drama program in Fort McMurray, and has worked relentlessly across the arts industry ever since.
In addition to her current position as Artistic Associate for Ghost River Theatre, Louise is the Artistic Director for the independent company Defiance Theatre, which is committed to the development of new Canadian theatre and bridging the gap between emerging and established artists. Through Defiance and on her own, Louise has been involved in over a dozen world premieres and counting.
In addition to her work in the theatre she is actively involved in event coordination and fundraising for both the commercial and non-profit sectors. Louise has served as the Co-Chair of Fundraising for Theatre Network, is a proud member of the Workshop West Playwright’s Theatre Board of Directors, and has previously served on the Keyano College Board of Governors.
She is passionate about exploring new ways to approach storytelling, good food, and all things strange and unusual.

The IGNITE! Festival acknowledge this event takes place on the land of the Treaty 7 People, The Blackfoot from Kainai, Blood, Siksika, and Peigan, The Sarcee from Tsu’tina and Eden Valley, and the Stoney Nakoda people from Morley. We are all treaty people, visitors to this land and we give thanks to the people who came before and keep this land for us and all our future generations.
